My church and being gay

April 30, 2008

Hey all,

It looks like I may have to make a difficult decision. First thing though, I’m gay. But that makes things difficult with regard to coming out.

I have no idea whether or not I should go to my deaf church anymore, especially since my pastor believes that being gay is wrong.

But I know it is not wrong. I cannot continue to pretend that I’m not gay, because God made me this way.

But on the other hand, I like going to my deaf church every other Sunday. I just wish that it didn’t have to end this way.

I should stop procrasinating on decisions and start taking action.

Hearing church website criticisms

July 17, 2007

Hi all.

First, a disclaimer. I am not in any way talking about my deaf church (Calvary Deaf Church), but rather the hearing church, who has a website at http://www.yourmeetingplace.ca/

And now without further ado, the criticism goes on as follows:

  • They use Flash. Yup, you heard me right. Flash. What’s the problem with Flash if it provides interactive content? Well, a church should not be discriminating against its website visitors, as that would be hypocritical. Even a few other websites of churches (yes, there are!) do much better in this regard by not using Flash. The hearing church should be ashamed of themselves.
  • My deaf church is located below the hearing church in the basement of it _using their facilities_. So shouldn’t the hearing church give back and talk about the deaf church? Remember, God wants even the blind and deaf to hear His word.
  • Related to the above, the hearing church doesn’t even list the pastor of the deaf church or even anyone related to it in the Staff section of the website at all. Again, oppressive and hypocritical.

Oppression and God: Cochlear Implants

February 11, 2007

Hi all.

At the deaf church today, I heard about a new federal law. It essentially says that if you get a CI, you cannot sign anymore and must resort to lipreading and listening.

Now, what do I think of this new law?

Well, I can sum it up: this new law is plain lying, and oppressive of Deaf, Deafened and hoh people who use a CI.

Why?

Well, God says in the last commandment (Exodus 20:16) that “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour”. Bearing false witness is lying, and a neighbour is a person that you have some type of relationship with (and that includes God too). God does not want you to lie because He is always truthful, so He expects you to be truthful too!

Oppression is when a group takes advantage of another group for its own benefit. By definition, oppression is bad because the oppressor only thinks of themselves, not other people.

*** PLEASE READ AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THIS THOUGHT BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THE ASK GOOGLE LINK. IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND, PLEASE ASK ***
I think that the federal government thinks that CI’s restore normal hearing. Well, they’re wrong. They do not restore normal hearing. Don’t take my word on this: Ask Google!
